Meet Taryn, a seasoned professional at the Centre, where she serves as the supervisor for Yorkville University Master of Counselling Practicum students. With over 20 years of experience as a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, Taryn has dedicated her career to supporting the personal growth and transformation of teens and adults.
Taryn's educational journey began in 2008 when she earned her Masters of Science in Couples and Family Therapy. Driven by a passion for continuous learning, she returned to university in 2015 to complete a postgraduate certificate in Health Psychology, further expanding her expertise in the field. As a result of her dedication and hard work, Taryn received her practice permit as a Registered Psychologist in Alberta in 2019.
Believing in the power of a holistic approach to health and healing, Taryn centres her therapeutic process on understanding the whole person. She applies a humanistic, trauma-informed lens to her practice, fostering a compassionate and empathetic environment for her clients.
Taryn's commitment to professional growth is evident in her pursuit of specialized training. She has honed her skills in various therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused Therapy.
With a passion for teaching and nurturing the next generation of counselors, Taryn has been supervising Practicum students since 2020. She ensures that these budding professionals receive valuable guidance and support during their learning journey. Taryn's dedication to her role is evident in her completion of the recommended training for supervisors from the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Taryn's profound expertise, caring nature, and commitment to ongoing development make her an invaluable asset to the Centre's team. As she continues to support the growth and well-being of her clients and students alike, Taryn remains a driving force in the field of counseling and psychology.
Rene Ramirez is a registered provisional psychologist with a rich academic background and diverse linguistic abilities. He earned a Master's degree in Psychosocial Intervention and a Master's in Sex Therapy and Relationship Therapy, both from the University of Barcelona. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Mary’s University. Rene is fluent in English, Spanish, and French, enhancing his ability to connect with and assist clients from various cultural backgrounds.
His therapeutic approach is both systemic and narrative, focusing on helping individuals reach their potential through tailor-made sessions that cater to their unique needs. Rene employs a strengths-based, solution-focused strategy in his practice, grounded in the belief that everyone possesses the inner resources necessary to overcome challenges and enhance their relationships.
Beyond his professional life, Rene is an avid traveler and polyglot, passionate about exploring new cultures and languages. He is deeply committed to promoting mental health and well-being, driven by a conviction that psychology can unlock the potential in everyone to achieve their goals.
Deepak Minhas holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Bachelor of Sciences from the University of Alberta, and a Legal Assistant Diploma from CDI College. She is also a published author, having written No Straight Lines and One Day at a Time, which explore themes of mental health within the South Asian community through poetry, prose, and short stories. Her literary work delves into complex issues such as homophobia, gender identity, and postpartum depression, both in Canada and India. Through her deep exploration of character narratives, Deepak developed a profound appreciation for personal stories, leading her to pursue a career in counselling.
Deepak’s therapeutic approach is compassionate, culturally informed, and evidence-based, with a focus on creating a safe and supportive space for her clients to process their lived experiences. She specializes in areas such as dual-identity conflict, grief and loss, and domestic and dating violence, helping individuals navigate challenges with empathy and understanding. Deepak is committed to empowering her clients to take control of their lives, fostering hope, self-acceptance, and personal growth. She has successfully completed her Master’s degree and is currently in the process of registering as a Provisional Psychologist in Alberta.

Rachel Harris is a counselling intern at the Centre for Mental Health and Addictions, currently completing her practicum under the supervision of Clinical Supervisor Taryn Neva. She is pursuing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Mary’s University, where she received the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship and the Jason Lang Scholarship in recognition of her academic excellence.
Rachel brings a strong foundation in behavioural analysis and a deep commitment to mental wellness. At the Centre, she supports individuals navigating a range of emotional and behavioural challenges through collaborative, person-centred care. Her approach integrates mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual aspects of wellness.
Her previous role as a Client Care Coordinator and Behavioural Analyst in the mental health sector strengthened her understanding of client journeys and deepened her capacity to provide trauma-informed, culturally aware support. She has worked with students, trained fellow volunteers, and developed a strong appreciation for compassionate, inclusive care.
Rooted in a humanistic framework, Rachel aims to create a safe and empathetic space where clients feel understood and empowered. Her dedication to holistic healing and lifelong learning drives her continued growth as a mental health professional.

Hannah Fuechter-Field is a trilingual intern counsellor with a diverse and multifaceted background in the mental health sector. Hannah earned her BSc in Anthropology and Psychology (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
Hannah has significant experience working with children and families in need. She provides low-cost tutoring in French, German and English for children and youth who struggle academically and socially. She has also been employed in the group-care system as a Youth and Family Counsellor and as a Behavioural Aide for children on the autism spectrum. Through these experiences, Hannah found a passion for supporting individuals through counselling. She employs a culturally-informed, trauma-informed and strength-based approach to counselling, choosing to focus on the present and clients' goals.
Outside of academia and employment, Hannah enjoys reading, writing and current events. She is a passionate outdoorswoman and feels at home in the mountains. She spends her time keeping up-to-date on new psychological research and practices. Hannah strives to advocate for mental health awareness in the community and offers compassionate and targeted therapy to help individuals in need.

Valeria Robles is a skilled Behavioral Analyst at the Centre for Mental Health and Addictions, where she applies her extensive academic background to practical, real-world situations. Valeria graduated with honors from the University of Calgary, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During her academic tenure, she was recognized with the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship and the Jason Lang Scholarship for her outstanding scholarly achievements.
Fluent in both Spanish and English, Valeria is dedicated to expanding access to mental health services for Spanish-speaking communities, aiming to provide crucial support in their preferred language. Her commitment is fueled by her own experiences and the understanding that cultural competence is essential in effective mental health care.
Throughout her undergraduate studies, Valeria engaged in various research projects, which sharpened her analytical skills and deepened her understanding of how personal experiences shape behavior. Now at the Centre, she leverages this knowledge to analyze behavioral patterns and devise effective interventions. Valeria is particularly passionate about ensuring mental health services are accessible and creating a supportive environment where clients feel safe to express themselves without fear of judgment.
